It started out as a student job building websites. Soon enough Michiel Valee became student-entrepreneur to bring companies an improved digitized system of logistics. Now, he works on Dockflow with co-founder Pauline Van Ostaijen.
7 years since he started working as a student-entrepreneur, the need for technology has only increased. Companies want the newest and most cutting-edge technologies available on the market. Michiel uses his expertise in logistics and blockchain to dust off the sometimes very old fashioned lines of communication.
It’s a problem present in many industries, and it was a big one in Antwerp’s maritime industry. Thousands of container ships, each containing hundreds of container cargo, need to be tracked globally. We all have lost a package in the mail before. Now imagine this on a global scale.
Dockflow is an improved way to track container cargo. It uses safe methods for companies to exchange data and information. Michiel and his team help companies make sure their cargo is on the right track for delivery.
It’s a very Belgian thing, to analyse your progress and wonder whether you’re on the right track. Michiel advises other student-entrepreneurs in their first years of experience to “not wait for the perfect moment to jump in. Getting your idea out there and talking to people about it, will get you from ‘wantrepreneur’ to entrepreneur in no time!”
